You wanna know a funny word?
The Norwegian word for ‘spider’ is edderkopp.
Jeg så en edderkopp i dag - I saw a spider today
Det var to edderkopper på veggen - There were two spiders on the wall
I spend most of my time writing and speaking English, so unless I’m outside, I don’t use my own language all that much, and I didn’t get to thinking until right now that “Wow, edderkopp is a funny word.”
I dunno, there’re funnier words out there, like the German word for ‘turtle’, Schildkröte. Then again, the Norwegian word for ‘turtle’ is skilpadde, which literally means ‘shell-toad’, so…
